Rental Fraud

Rental & Real Estate Scams

Scammers list properties they don't own, collect deposits, then disappear. In hot housing markets, desperate renters are particularly vulnerable.

How Rental Scams Work

Fraudsters copy legitimate property listings with lower prices. They claim to be abroad and unable to show the property, but offer to mail keys after receiving a deposit.

Alternatively, they may have temporary access to a property and "rent" it to multiple people simultaneously. Victims arrive to find someone else already living there.
